Recent advances in Plant Sciences

Aim of the webinar :

To impart the current knowledge of research in Plant Sciences, thereby creating interest in plant sciences students and faculty.

Objectives :

1.To understand the importance of plants in our daily life.

2.To empower the students about the current knowledge in plant sciences.

Report :

The two day webinar was organized by the Department of Botany, YAGC(W)Chirala  on 23^rd and 24^th November,2021 at 11.00AM in its endeavor to empower students and the faculty about the recent advances in plant sciences. On the first day the first session was started by our Principal and the convener of the webinar madam Dr.Ch.Ramanamma. Our principal has warmheartedly welcomed the guests and the participants to get benefited from the lectures of the resource persons of the webinar.

1^st Day :  The first day of webinar took place on 23^rd November,2021.

On the first day, Prof.N.Savitramma garu, Principal, College of Sciences, Tirupati and Dr.P.Ponmurugan, Associate Professor, Bharathiyar University delivered their lectures.

Dr.P.Ponmurugan from Bharathiyar University ,has given the first lecture on the topic “Environment Audit, Green Audit and their importance in Educational institutions”. He explained the importance of the green audit and importance of plants  in maintaining ecological balance. He also explained about waste management.

The second lecture was given by Prof.N.Savitramma garu on the topic “The applications of Nanotechnology in the present scenario”. She explained the applications of Nanotechnology in various fields especially in Agriculture.

2^nd Day : The second day of webinar took place on the 24^th November,2021

Dr.P.Ponmurugan from Bharathiyar University, Dr.A.Sabitha Rani, Associate Professor, UCS, Osmania University ,Telangana, Dr.V.Madhuri, Assistant professor, Krishna University , Machilipatnam participated in the webinar as resource persons for the second day.

After a brief introduction, Dr.P.Ponmurugan delivered his lecture on the topic “Applications of Lichens”. He explained the importance of lichens, their applications in various fields especially in the medical field.

The second lecture on the topic “Harnessing the power of rDNA technology in Biotherapeutics” was given by Dr.A.Sabitha Rani who explained various steps in the production of rDNA products, their importance and different types of products like Hirudin from seeds , recombinant hormone like insulin , therapeutic enzymes ,  Anticoagulants etc.

The third lecture on the topic “Plant cell cultures-Phytochemical factories of secondary metabolites” was given by Dr.V.Madhuri . She explained the use of plant cells to produce various secondary metabolites and the strategies involved for their production. The webinar was ended with vote of thanks by Mrs.G.Nirmala kumari.

Outcome :

67 participants registered their names using registration link. Out of them,27 are students and 40 are faculty.76 participants connected to the webinar. Many students viewed it virtually in their respective colleges. 63 members filled the feedback forms and got the certificates.

            All the participants benefited from the lectures delivered in the webinar. They appreciated the topics selected and gave positive feedback about the webinar.
