About the Department

  • Department of Mathematics is one of the oldest Department in Y.A. Govt. College for women, producing  nearly 200 students in every year.
  • Department of Mathematics was established in the year 1966 under the affiliation of the Acharya Nagarjuna University
  • BSC course with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry combination was started in 1966. Two posts were sanctioned for Mathematics Department.  The medium of instruction is Telugu.  
  • Restructured course was started with group combinations of Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science (MPCS) was introduced in the year 1997 with an intake of 30 Students only .
  • Restructured Course with Group Combinations of Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science (MSCS), and the Restructured course with group combinations of Mathematics, Chemistry, Computer Science (MCCS) was started in 2014-15.
  • Restructured course with Group Combinations of Mathematics, Data Science and Computer Science (MDCS) was introduced in the year 2021
  • CBCS Semester pattern was introduced in the year 2015-16 and was revised in the year 2020-21. 
  • At present Two Staff Members were working in this department.
  • Department is conducting monthly Assignments and monthly tests and internals to assess the progress of the  students.
  • Department is also providing Remedial Coaching for the students who are slow in learning Mathematics.
  • Department  of Mathematics is also conducting Bridge Classes for First Year Students.
  • Department also supplies Extra Academic inputs to the Students on Certain important topics.

Teaching, learning and evaluation

Teaching

  • Lecture, Discussion and Various Other Methods form The Backbone Of the Entire Teaching Process.
  • This Is Further Supplemented By Various Co-Curricular and Extracurricular Activities such as Student Seminars, Guest Lectures, Quiz Competitions, Field Visits, Group Discussions, Etc.,
  • Teaching Is Aided by PPT Presentations and Subject Related You tube Videos in order to make the Students grasp the Subject easily.
  • The Internet is used to the Maximum Possible Extent to Aid the Teaching Process.
  • The Annual Academic Plans are Prepared by the Teaching Staff at the very beginning of each Academic Year.
  • The Syllabus is Covered as per Plan.
  • Teaching Diary and Teaching Notes are Maintained by the Faculty.
  • Study Material is Distributed to the Students.
  • Firm Adherence to the Academic Plan is Ensured and the Progress is Reviewed Periodically.
  • The Department Conducts Bridge Classes To First Year Students To Fill The Gaps In Their Knowledge In Grammar, Prasody And Alankaras
  • Slow Learners in each Class are identified and are given Remedial Coaching.
  • Curriculum Feedback is taken from time to time and Appropriate Changes are made as Per the Student’s Requirement.

Learning

  • Students are given a list of Reference Books available in the College Library and also in the Departmental Library that they can Refer in order to Enhance their Understanding of Various Topics.
  • Students are also Encouraged to Read the Text Books from the College Library as well as the Departmental Library.
  • Students are Encouraged to Discuss the Difficult Topics with the Staff Members.
  • Students are Assigned Study Projects which they Complete Under The Guidance of the Faculty.
  • Apart From Clearing the Doubts raised by the Students in the Class, Doubt Clarification Session is  arranged after Teaching hours.
  • The Slow Learners are identified and they are Encouraged to Write Assignments on the Topics Useful for the University Examinations.

Learning resources

  • The Department has its Own Library.
  • Digital and Virtual Classrooms are also Utilized for Teaching Purposes.
  • Lesson Telecasts in MANA TV Programs are used by the Students.

Evaluation

  • The Evaluation and Assessment is done through Mid - Semester Examinations and End-Semester Examinations.
  • Apart from these, Slip Tests, Assignments are held immediately after the completion of a Topic. This helps the students to get rid of their Examination fear.
  • Pass percentages Achieved by the Department during the past five years in the university examinations are Encouraging.
  • The students have been performing consistently well over the past five years.

Student activities

  • Study projects: Advanced learners are Assigned Study Projects Every year. The Projects are based on a Topic that is related to the Subject or Research Oriented Topic Related to Society.
  • Students are Guided by the Faculty and are Encouraged to refer Books in the Library, Browse the internet and Consult anyone who they feel can Enlighten them about the Topics.
  • This helps the Students in Gaining a Deeper Understanding of the Subject. Also, this Activity gives them Experience in the Research field which helps them in their future Endeavors.
