Microbiology is a branch of biological science which deals with the study of invisible living entities like Viruses, Bacteria, Fungi, Protozoa, Algae which is at the forefront of modern biology. It has the significant role in the field of Medicine, Agriculture, Genetics, Immunology, Industrial Microbiology, Forensics etc.

History of the Department

 The department of Microbiology was introduced in the college, in the year 1998 at UG level, to keep in pace with the changing needs in the field of biological science and research.

• In the year 1998 Microbiology was introduced with the combinations of Biochemistry and Fisheries.
• In the year 2000 it was re-organized with Zoology and Chemistry.
• In the year 2022, in addition with MZC, a new course with Microbiology, Biotechnology, Chemistry combinations was introduced.

Vision:

To develop employment, self-employability skills to the woman by laying strong foundation in the areas of general and Applied Microbiology by the way of infusing scientific temper and analytical thinking.

Mission:

• To create an innovative, and Research Oriented environment for the budding generation.
• To recognize the strength of the students and to encourage them to full fill their achievements.
• To promote the field of microbiology through providing extensive practical and theoretical knowledge.
•  To stimulate an interest among the students by elucidating the implications of Microbiology.

Objectives of the Course

• The main objective of the course is to provide basic knowledge of the main areas of the subject to study the characteristics of microorganisms, and their importance in industrial production processes, genetic engineering, therapeutics etc.
• To enable the students to gain knowledge on bio molecules, genetics and about functioning of immune system and immunological disorders.
• To study the causative agents of different diseases and various immune related barriers.
• To study the applied microbiology related to environment and agriculture and the importance of terrestrial microorganisms in maintaining soil fertility.

Highlights of the Department:

The Department of Microbiology serving the students from its inception and moulded many generations since its establishment.

• The Department conducts PG CET coaching program and, on an average, every year, 30% of the enrolled students qualify these examinations and get in to various prestigious state Universities and central Universities.
• The eligible employment opportunities are communicated timely to the students and make them aware of the opportunities.
• The student of MZC has received a state level Pratibha award for her excellence in the academics.
• The Department has conducted one day National webinar on “Recent Advances in Biological Sciences”.
