Botany, the plant science is one of the world's oldest natural sciences. Today botany is extended to such a large and varied area that it has many important uses in a wide variety of disciplines.With the effects of climate change and the growing awareness that plants are carbon sinks, in the coming years, the need to study Botany will be vital as it teaches us about the ecology of the future.

VISION

To impart quality education to make the students acquire an in- depth knowledge of plant sciences that inculcates scientific temper and research attitude for a sustainable environment.

MISSION

To provide a student centric and professional oriented higher education in botany & Horticulture.
To demonstrate and promote creative & intellectual eco systems with effective teaching-learning and evaluation methodologies.
To organize co-circular, extra-circular and extension activities to enrich the subject knowledge of botany among the students.

BRIEF HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

The Department of Botany was established in the year 1966 and was wind up in the year 2002. In view of the importance and need for the study of plant science, Botany department was reestablished in the year 2014 .At present the department is offering two programmes in Botany

B.Sc. (BZC)programme with Botany, Zoology and chemistry combination was introduced in the academic year 2014-2015. B. Sc (BHC)programme with Botany,Horticulture and chemistry combination was introduced in the academic year 2020-2021 as a market oriented restructured course.

HIGHLIGHTS OF THE DEPARTMENT

The department strives towards achieving the goals of education to the best of its ability and to achieve these targeted goals the faculty and the students of the department are playing a responsible role.
The department has well qualified and dedicated staff.
The department organized National Science Day for one week which was sponsored by NCST, DST GOI and APCOST.
The department organized several field trips, study tours, Workshops like “organic farming” (2017)., “sericulture as entrepreneurship and cocoon-based handicrafts” (2018). “Implementation of swachhta action plan in higher educational institutions”.(2021).National webinar on “Recent advances in plant sciences” (2021).
Extension lectures (Guest lectures) were organized inviting University professors from Acharya Nagarjuna university, Guntur & Sri padmavathi mahila university, Tirupathi as resource persons.
The department (with II BSC Botany Students) got nominated to exhibit project on innovative integrated farming at Jnanabheri knowledge summit 2018 conducted by Govt of AP and got appreciation from the then honorable Chief minister of AP.
The faculty of the department actively take part in the extension activities like Youth Red cross and Swachhta action plan. Smt M.Santosh kumari lecturer in Botany was awarded as best Nodal officer by Indian Red cross society and received Gold medal from AP State Governor in the year 2018.
Smt. M. Santosh kumari lecturer in Botany as swachhta action plan SAP coordinator achieved Green champion award for the institution, which was conferred by MGNCRE, Ministry of Higher education in the year 2021
Students accomplished their study projects like Multi grafting in Adeniums”in collaboration with Ravi Gardens main branch, Vedullapalli, Bapatla and “soil analysis and mineral nutrition” in collaboration with Regional soil testing Centre AP, located in Agricultural college campus BAPATLA, Guntur Dist.
Botany cluster student G. Swetha achieved PRATHIBHA AWARD conferred by AP State Govt for academic excellence .
Smt.MSantosh kumari lecturer in Botany has given LIVE PRESENTATION in MANA TV for 3 topics for II B.Sc Botany. Contributed 12 topics for LMS and 2 topics for podcast and teaching learning material for Bharat pade online during the pandemic
